We here at Watson Gloves have just completed our 2015 fiscal year end and are proudly into our 97th year of successful glove manufacturing and distribution. For fiscal year 2016, our corporate agenda is to strive for 100% accuracy in all of our various departments. Our goal is to deliver to you, our valued customer, an unparalleled experience when dealing with us.

The Game of Thorns is an amazing new glove created by our Product Developer after one of our sales guys had repeated requests for it from garden shop managers in his Okanagan territory.

Wow! Thank you everyone for the tremendous effort and hard work over the past few months. At our last AGM the word momentum was mentioned and how important it is in our growth strategy. Well with the results we’ve seen in 2014, we have momentum baby! Watson is growing rapidly and it is thanks to the effort put in by all members of the team. Don’t take my word for it look at these numbers:

Garden Gloves: More Than Just a Fashion Accessory
Gardeners are starting to feel it in the air. Spring is coming, and with it, a brand new gardening season. When you walk into your local garden centre in the next month, your eyes will surely be caught by the “Glove Rack.” On it you’ll see this season’s new fabrics, patterns and colours. While you’ll want to pick a pair that looks oh-so-fab, you should also consider their purpose. We wear gloves to garden in so our hands stay clean, but they are also extremely important for protection.
Life After the Flood
It has now been 40 days since my wife Debbie and I were impacted by the High River flood on June 20, 2013. The experience of walking into your home after such an ordeal, to say the least, was shocking, upsetting and startling. Where do you begin to start as you are surveying the damage to your basement? Who do you call to get your back door fixed after it was kicked in?
Ahhh, So That’s Why We Wear Gardening Gloves
I ran into a friend the other day at the local Home Improvement centre. This friend has her own landscaping company and was on a mission to buy some gloves. She was just recovering from a terrible infection that she got the week before as a result of being pricked by thorns while she was busy pruning.
Moving Day
After a decade in a building that has served us well we are moving!!! Since our last move we have expanded our business, changed our business direction and most importantly built an incredible Team.
In a recent meeting I asked our team the question…. ‘who built the new building?’ Peter (Northern AB rep) shouted Beattie Construction….Technically yes…. anyone else? Marty and the entire Moore Family
another Patrick (Operations Manager) answered… Good thinking but not what I’m looking for…. Then Randy Dreager piped up…. My sales Skills. Well Randy, Yes that did help… Sales people and their hard Work on the road was a major factor. Enough already (Shaft was getting impatient) what is it? Our Customers! The relationships we have built with our core customers is the reason for our growth…. It was undisputed.
The picture below (taken at 9:45PM) sums it up in my mind…. Tammy walked into the new building with a final load (of the day) from the old place…. She noticed her name on her new office…. Does that mean I’m promoted? Ya I guess that’s what that means quipped Kirk (Branch Manager). She wiped a tear away, and then yelled at someone ‘alright enough standing around, let’s get back to work’.
We are very proud of our new facility and we are looking forward to having our customers in for a visit!

It’s Gardening Time!

Gardeners are starting to feel it in the air. Spring is coming and with it the gardening season will start. When you walk into your local garden center in the next month your eyes will surely be caught by the “Glove Rack”. On it you’ll see this season’s latest offerings. There will be new fabrics, patterns and colors. While you will want to pick a pair that look oh-so-fab you should also consider their purpose. We wear gloves to garden in so our hands stay clean but they are also necessary to protect our hands. Gloves provide a barrier from soil, splinters, pricks, cuts and abrasions, insect and spider bites, poison oak and other skin irritants. They keep skin dry, prevent sunburn and fingernail damage and reduce blistering.
It’s important to have different gloves appropriate for the task at hand. You therefore need a number of styles in your potting shed.
- Leather Gloves – provide protection from most thorns but still absorb water and don’t breathe
- Rubber Gloves – keep hands dry, great for muddy/wet conditions, washable
- Performance Gloves – snug-fitting, durable, may not protect against thorns, not ideal for wet conditions
- Nitrile Gloves – excellent for dexterity, strong, puncture resistant, and if they have a knit back then they are good for breath-ability, washable, often good to protect against chemicals
- Cotton Gloves – inexpensive, washable and comfortable but offer no protection from water or thorns
- Waterproof Gauntlet – totally waterproof with a long gauntlet, sometimes even reaching up to the shoulder, perfect for the pond/water gardener
Be sure that gloves fit well, that they’re nice and snug. Choose gloves with long wrist protectors (gauntlets) for pruning plants with prickles and thorns. Click to view our selection of gardening gloves.
Work Armour: ProTech Rebranded

This past year Watson Gloves rebranded our line of performance gloves. What was ProTech is now Work Armour. You’ve seen performance gloves out in the world, not the sloppy work glove of old but new form fitting gloves. Made with bright color trim and extras such as gel padding in the palm or heavy duty rubber protective patches on the fingers or knuckles to protect your hands against hard impact or abrasion injuries. Under this brand are both winter lined and unlined styles of gloves, made with fit and protection in mind. Like all Watson Gloves the Work Armour styles all have their own names such as Extreme, Daytona, Wingman, Drill Sergeant and the made in Canada best seller Storm Trooper, to name a few.
Our Work Armour performance gloves are made to fit “like a glove” and to achieve this we added spandex to a number to styles. When a glove is made with multiple materials (leather, neoprene, spandex, mesh, microfibre, etc) the designer has more flexibility to do what’s needed to make it the best. Design is done with an end goal in mind. What sport or occupation are the gloves to be worn for? What are the sport or job hazards? What potential injuries could occur? Where are the critical wear areas? Once we answer these questions our design team can begin. Often the process is begun because of need expressed by one of our customers. Our job is to listen.
We then get sample(s) made and have the customer try them out. There is no substitute for actual wear & tear on the job. We want our customer to wear a pair at work or wear them while doing the sport they are designed for. Only then will we know what to improve. What is the glove lacking? What areas could we improve upon? What could WE do better to make this a glove you want to wear? Let us know, we want to hear what you have to say!
