Product Creation & Development Assistant

Location: Burnaby, BC

We’re looking for a passionate and energetic individual, who loves design! Reporting to the Product Developer, this individual must be detail oriented and a team player, with strong communication skills. The Product and Creation team is quiet, but they like to crack jokes to break the ice and once they get started, there is no stopping their creativity. At Watson Gloves we work hard and play hard!

Essential roles and responsibilities:


  • Building and maintaining detailed product Glove Specification sheets & Criteria Packages including building BOMs, fit specifications for core styles & new styles
  • Manage proto sample, counter-sample, and pre production approval samples to ensure Watson Glove quality standards are met as well as on time deliveries
  • Maintain and organize production standards, testing results, supplier vetting forms and manuals
  • Create inner labels for Core Watson product
  • Create UPCs for all styles (manage master UPC database) and request to be built into GP


  • Liaise between Purchasing/ Suppliers / 3rd party QC (where applicable) to ensure goods meet Watson specifications
  • Review all bulk production goods (sizing, quality, upcs, packaging. Ensure they followed GSS)
  • Communicate and log any quality issues for supplier & purchasers to action

Product Design:

  • Create Product gap analysis chart
  • Actively participate in product meetings and post-season analysis
  • Help develop new glove designs as well as innovate the core products
  • Assist with technical line drawings for prototyping using Adobe Illustrator
  • Updating of Criteria Packages using Adobe Indesign

Private Label in-house and Overseas:

  • Manage and maintain Private label sample requests from our sales team
  • Create glove mock ups of gloves with customer logos using Photoshop
  • Generate print ready files for in house heat transfer printer using Illustrator
  • Prepare accurate sample requests tech packs for suppliers to follow
  • Process all Private Label orders – orders submitted to purchasers must be sent with tech packs, customer logos & all special requests must be clearly communicated

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Work Experience/Educational background required:

  • A post-secondary certificate or degree program in garment design and manufacturing
  • Two years experience in garment production

Additional skills or experience preferred:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Fast learner willing to learn a structured production process
  • Proven ability to work effectively with cross functional/departmental partners and teams
  • Excellent time management skills, planning, problem solving skills and able to prioritize & meet deadlines as required
  • Product design skills with intermediate knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, indesign)
  • Intermediate knowledge Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional
  • Intermediate knowledge MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Explorer)
  • Intermediate knowledge of Great Plains (Training will be provided)
  • Innovative multi-tasker, able to work in a fast paced environment with constantly changing conditions and shifting priorities.
