Watson Anniversary – Pat McCormack’s 15th Work Anniversary
We’re happy to celebrate Pat McCormack’s 15th anniversary here at Watson Gloves and we did a Q&A with him!
What do you do at Watson Gloves?
I’m the Operations Manager at the Calgary branch. I look after the building, inventory, customer orders, you name it and I’ll do it.
.
How did you start your career here at Watson Gloves?
I answered a newspaper ad when they actually had postings in the paper. I was hired as a Warehouse Associate. When I started, there were only 2 people in the warehouse and 3 people in the office. The Calgary branch has really grown but through the past 15 years, I’ve always been a warehouse guy – it’s in my blood.
.
What do you like most about your job?
Everything. I’m serious! I love the autonomy. My bosses say “Pat, run with it, take care of it, you know what you’re doing.” And that’s what I’ve been doing – performing the job that I love to the best of my ability every day. And the people. Everybody gets along well with each other and we’re all here for each other to get through it all, whether it’s work, life or a pandemic.
.
What does ‘Watson Family’ mean to you?
Oh, I have a story for you. It was the great flood of 2013. I was at the AGM down in Blaine, WA. I got a text from my wife that everybody in our town, High River, had to evacuate. Right away, Marty helped book a flight back to Calgary and offered to put my wife and I temporarily in a hotel. When we were finally able to return to our house a week after, there was 3 feet of flooding in our basement. Everything was lost. But the Watson Family responded with outpouring support. I got a big construction fan for drying the basement; Kasey’s brother helped install a new hot water tank; and employees contributed with donations, gift cards, and food. I remember receiving a card signed by everybody and Marty’s comment read, “IF YOU NEED ANYTHING, JUST ASK.” I’ve built such great relationships with everybody over the years. Something like this goes to show you what the company’s made of – what the people are made of.
Congrats again to Pat on his 15th work anniversary at Watson!
